Ocean Medallion to be Delayed?

The highly anticipated Ocean Medallion is about to roll out across the Carnival Corp. Fleet, however, they have decided to slow down the delivery fleet-wide and are opting for a more ‘phased-in’ approach over the full implementation originally planned.

The wearable technology, that Carnival Corp. refer to as a ‘virtual concierge’ is expected to be debuting on the Regal Princess in November of this year. According to the cruise line everything is going according to plan and the framework and system is on schedule to be complete by the date originally set. The plan is to introduce the service to a select number of passengers initially for a trial period that will run through to spring 2018. They will then activate more features of the medallion and then add groups of cabins in phases before finally offering the experience to the whole ship all at once.

A spokesman from the company said, “This approach will allow us to receive continuous feedback from a controlled number of guests and crew while the ship is in service.’’

All passengers on Regal Princess’ November 13 cruise, however, will be able to experience MedallionNet, the line’s new high-speed Internet designed to withstand inclement weather and areas of spotty connectivity.

Some incredible features of the Ocean Medallion include the ability to get food ordered to any part of the ship, make restaurant reservations, book tickets for the shows, and also allows users to create a virtual avatar called a “tagalong” that follows them throughout the ship, offering reminders of things to do or interacting with other people’s tagalongs.
