P&O Cruises’ fleet transformation is gathering pace with all the excitement of Pacific Adventure on the horizon as Pacific Jewel and Pacific Eden are farewelled following their huge brand building contribution.
“It’s a very exciting time for Australia’s home brand with Pacific Adventure set to play an integral role in P&O’s next chapter of growth and innovation,” said President of P&O Cruises, Sture Myrmell.
“This 3100-guest ship will be a showcase for P&O’s style of contemporary cruising offering diverse dining experiences including concepts from Australian chef and restaurateur Luke Mangan and award-winning Melbourne-based chef Johnny Di Francesco.
“We’re looking forward to continuing to take our guests on new unforgettable cruising adventures. But today we are naturally feeling a little nostalgic as we officially say farewell to Pacific Jewel and Pacific Eden and reflect on their incredible contribution as much loved P&O ships.”
Pacific Eden today completed her final P&O cruise in Singapore and follows Pacific Jewel’s recent farewell.
Together the two ships carried more than one million guests on a total of 646 cruises – 830,000 passengers for Jewel over her more than nine years with the fleet and 290,000 during Pacific Eden’s more than three years with P&O.
For many, these cruise holidays were the introduction to the joys of cruising and holiday memories that will last a lifetime.
Their combined economic impact is impressive at an estimated $600 million — $444 million for Pacific Jewel and $156 million for Pacific Eden.
“Looking at these figures, it is easy to see why cruising now generates around $5 billion in economic activity in Australia annually,” Mr Myrmell said.
During their time with P&O, Jewel and Eden accounted for huge quantities of locally supplied produce including more than 6.2 million kilograms of vegetables and 2.4 million kilograms of fruit.
“Both of these ships have been wonderful members of our fleet and while it is always sad to say farewell, adventure literally awaits in every sense of the word with the arrival of Pacific Adventure in 2020 and a second Grand-class vessel in 2021,” Mr Myrmell said.
