Onboard Ovation of the Seas with Sophie

An Amazing first experience with Royal Caribbean, on board Ovation of the Seas with Sophie from our office – we are really jealous!

I have never sailed with Royal Caribbean before and to go on my first cruise with them from Hong Kong was incredible. The trip started with a 3 night stay in Hong Kong, there is so much to do there and its so easy to travel around and fit everything in. On the day of the cruise we travelled to the new cruise terminal Kai Tak, and the check in process was so easy. Plenty of staff working so the queue wasn’t long at all, took around about 10 minutes in all to get the on board account and our key card set up. The new cruise terminal is spacious and air conditioned so coming out of the 38 degrees heat was lovely and refreshing.

Once we got on board, we did a quick ship tour before all the guests arrived on board and I couldn’t believe how much there was to do on board, for all ages. On top deck they have iFly at Sea so you can go indoor sky-diving on a ship!! Amazing! They also have the Flowrider which is where you can practice your surfing which is a lot of fun for all ages, they have trainers left to help you, or hold you arm to stop you from falling. Then they have the pool area and children’s water area which is really good, the adults can relax whilst on a sun lounger and watch their children at the same time, but there are also plenty of life guards on duty to make sure everyone is safe. Another amazing feature on top deck was the North Star, which we did after an excursion, so as the sun was setting over Vietnam you go up in a air-conditioned pod and officially be at the ‘highest point at sea’ you can sea for miles and the view really is breath taking.

The sailing I went on was only a 5 day sailing and it a Culturally enriching cruise, so a lot of the guests and crew members were from Asia. So they have some things on board done a little differently that to say a cruise going to the Caribbean. For example, announcements and entertainment would first be said in a different language but then translated into English so it didn’t make much of a difference. Even though a lot of the staff were from Asia they had excellent English so whenever we needed something it wasn’t a problem.

The cuisine on-board was amazing, there was so much choice. They had the buffet area; Windjammer, which had foods from all-around the world, they catered for everyone. Once of the guests who travelled with me was gluten-free and they didn’t have a problem catering for that even though we were out in Asia and it’s not noticeable that much out there. Then there was the 4 dining rooms, we had dinner most nights in Silk which is a Asian restaurant and each night the menu had something different on and lots of choice. But if you didn’t like the Asian choices they also had set menu which Chicken, Steak or Fish on. On one of the evenings we decided to try one of the specialty restaurants; Chop’s Grill – steak restaurant. I must say, it was the nicest steak I have ever tried. They also have Jamie’s Italian and Wonderland – a restaurant based on Alice in Wonderland.

Royal Caribbean are an excellent cruise line, and I couldn’t fault them one bit. If your new to cruising I would definitely make them your first choice. With the number of itineraries they have going from Asia I would definitely team it up with a couple nights stay before hand, which we at Vision Cruise can do for you.
